About This Site

Pick Weight Loss publishes long-term, hands-on reviews of the everyday tools that make losing weight at home easier: smart body scales, under-desk walking pads, resistance bands, digital food scales and protein powder. Every product here is used at home for weeks before it is written about, and every article says plainly what it does well and where it falls short.

Health and Exercise Safety

Nothing on this site is medical advice. Talk with your doctor before you start a new diet, change how much you eat, add a protein supplement, or begin an exercise routine, especially if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney problems, joint issues, are pregnant or nursing, or take prescription medication.

Smart scales that estimate body fat send a small electrical current through the body. Do not use the body-composition mode if you have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, and treat body-fat and muscle readings as rough estimates, not measurements. Day-to-day weight swings of a few pounds are normal.

Walking pads and treadmills can cause falls. Start at a slow speed, wear supportive shoes, keep the safety clip attached, keep children and pets away from the moving belt, and unplug the machine when it is not in use. Check the weight limit before stepping on.

Resistance bands can snap or slip. Inspect them for nicks and tears before every session, anchor them securely, keep them away from your face, and stop if you feel sharp pain rather than muscle effort.

Protein powders contain milk and may contain other allergens. Read the label, follow the serving size, and ask your doctor or a registered dietitian whether added protein is right for you. If you notice dizziness, chest pain or shortness of breath while exercising, stop and seek medical help.
